BRD – Groupe Société Générale – Oracle Cloud Gen1 to Gen2 migration Success Story
Exadata Cloud@Customer (EXACC) Gen2 uniquely combines the world’s #1
database technology and Exadata X9M, the most powerful database platform,
with the simplicity, security and elasticity of a cloud-based deployment.
It runs the same Oracle Exadata Database Service as in the public cloud, but
located in customers’ own data centers, thus enabling a consistent Exadata Cloud
experience for customers.
BRD Groupe Société Générale is the first and the biggest EXACC customer in Romania
and one of the first worldwide adopters of Oracle Cloud at Customer Platform.
The project starts six years back with the implementation of Oracle Exadata
Cloud at Customer Gen1 -X6 and X7 Servers.
The migration from the Gen 1 to the new Oracle Cloud at Customer Gen 2 have
been assessed and analyzed together with BRD and the decision was made
considering all the technical platform new features and the new Oracle Cloud
services consumption model “Universal Credits”.
A digital transformation project, at a very big scale, this migration project was
for all the parts involved, BRD – as a client, Logika – as a technical services
provider and Oracle – as solution provider, a new milestone and a major
reference to take it in to consideration.
The Oracle EXACC Gen 2 platform comes with the new X9M Exadata Servers.
A superior network fabric and improved virtualization to EXACC. Exadata X9M
storage servers include persistent memory, creating an additional tier of storage
and boosting overall system performance for OLTP, Analytics, Hybrid, and
Consolidation workloads.
The power of consolidation is another key benefit, BRD successfully add on the
Exadata Cloud at Customer Gen 2 infrastructure most of their critical production
systems and continue to add and build on the new cloud platform.
New Oracle Cloud Gen2 services comes with all its improvements (improved
stability, better security, flexibility), better hardware and easier deployment
model. Exadata Gen2 delivers Exadata as an Oracle Cloud service in the physical
protection of your data center and is based on comprehensive security measures
deployed in the hardware infrastructure, network and Exa platform.
Together with new Gen 2 infrastructure, also comes the new Oracle Cloud
services consumption model which is Universal Credits annual commit. This
model brings a major flexibility for Gen2 in terms of technology utilization,
scalability and cloud service consumption.
In order to be align with all the business and security requirements, there was a
need to consolidate, upgrade and migrate a large number of Oracle Databases, in
a very short time, with no room for errors.
Performing complex testing phases for all project steps in order to deliver on the
new Gen2 production systems a perfectly functional Oracle databases.
Comply with the BRD existing security procedures, adapt and integrate with the
security features available in new Gen2 platform.
Both, BRD and Logika expert teams involved on this large migration project,
was challenged to prove and deliver high-end technical services through the
entire period, to keep up and integrate with the new technical features available
on the Gen 2 Platform.
After almost 3 months, the BRD team together with Logika team, successfully
migrate the Oracle Database ecosystem and now they are on full production
mode on the new Exadata Cloud at Customer Gen2.
Mr. Dan Lungu – Head of Platform as a Service
“Migration to Exadata Cloud@Customer Gen2 was a big improvement
regarding ease of client network adoption, hardware performance and support
provided by Oracle CloudOps Teams.
Together with Logika partner, we migrate hundreds of databases from Gen1
infrastructure, increase consolidation and databases size in Gen2 and overall
performance was increased.
Flexibility of universal credits model allowing us to have time intervals with high
CPU capacity and intervals with low CPU usage, consuming credits only for
hourly capacity used.”
